Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates has been banned from the road for six months after being caught speeding for the fourth time when he Mercedes was clocked doing 47mph in a 40 zone.  

The 45 year-old host appeared at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court in south-west London today for her latest offence.

Mother-of-two Cates, who lives in a £1.4m home in Chiswick, west London, admitted breaking the 40mph speed limit while driving her black two-litre Mercedes in Clayponds Avenue, Brentford on July 2, last year.

The court heard Cates, who has also presented sports shows for ESPN; ITV; talkSPORT and Radio 5 Live, was caught on a speed camera travelling at 47mph.

Cates, the daughter of Scottish footballing legend Kenny Dalglish, already had nine penalty points on her driving licence.

These were for speeding offences in November, 2018 and April and December, 2019.

Today’s additional three points triggered an automatic six-month ban under the totting rules.

Cates, who was pictured leaving court wearing a beige coat over a navy polka-dot dress, as well as white trainers and a light blue face covering, was also fined £660, with £90 costs.

The broadcaster regularly presents live Premier League football on Sky Sports but and previously hosted other sports programmes for the likes of ESPN and ITV.

She is also known for yahoo23FoWcAztrSUo her work on BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 football phone-in show, which she regularly hosts alongside Arsenal legend Ian Wright, and has also worked for Talksport and on Joe’s Liquid Football podcast.

Outside presenting, Cates and her father have been hailed for their campaigning around the Hillsborough disaster, which saw 96 Liverpool fans killed in 1989.

Earlier this year, she explained why she is wary to start dating again in her mid-40s, following her split from her husband of 14 years, Tom.

Cates admitted she doesn’t think men will find her attractive due to her weight and age. 

Speaking to fellow sports host Gabby Logan on The Mid Point podcast in March, she said: ‘I don’t have a picture in my head of why a middle-aged, slightly overweight, mother-of-two could possibly be attractive. 

‘I can’t get my head around that.

It’s not that I’m putting myself down, it’s not a lack of confidence or low self-esteem, it’s I just don’t know what that would look like.

‘I will not be writing my own bio on dating websites,’ she joked.
